Title

Elizabeth Willing Powel to Elizabeth Hopkinson, 21 October, 1815

Description

Elizabeth Powel sends a pair of pockets to her Elizabeth Hopkinson, the fifteen year old daughter of Elizabeth's next door neighbor and godson, Joseph Hopkinson. She was under the impression pockets had gone out of fashion, but was impressed to hear that Miss Hopkinson still desired a set. This is an interesting letter as it shows how Elizabeth interacted with her servants, that she started the set and her "workman" finished them. This "workman" may have been Margaret McIntire, Mrs. Powel's longtime mantua-maker and seamstress.
