Title
Argand wall lamp
Description
Two years after Elizabeth Powel gave him an Argand lamp, George Washington ordered fourteen more of a similar style for his Executive Residence in New York City during the first two years of the presidency. He then brought those lamps with him to the President's Mansion in Philadelphia for the remainder of his presidency. This lamp is the only surviving piece from that large set.
