Title

GEORGE MASON IV (1725-1792)

Description

The original portrait by John Hesselius was destroyed. However, a copy of the original Hesselius portrait, pictured here, was done by Dominic Boudet in 1811 and records what the portrait looked like. George Mason, fourth of the name in Virginia, was the son of George Mason III and Ann Thomson Mason. George Mason married Ann Eilbeck in 1750.
The subject wears a dark gray jacket over a blue waistcoat trimmed in gold. His left hand is tucked into his waistcoat and he is turned three-quarters to his left.
